He was reprimanding His disciples for not having enough faith in God to cast the demon out of the boy that was brought to them. Faith is trust; trust that God will keep His Word. In other words, faith is trusting God's character, and it comes from developing a relationship with Him. If you know His personality, then you know what He will or will not do.
Why don't we see mountains moving today? If people don't develop a relationship with Him, then they won't have confidence to say "move from here to there." He wants us to actively seek a relationship with Him as He continues to seek one with us. He wants His children to know Him and want to spend time with Him. He wants His children to trust in Him. Allow Him to prove His faithfulness.
