Mom's Story
Realized Dreams
I've always wanted to own my own business. I really like making things especially because I grew up in Jamaica with a mother who made a living sewing custom made clothes for people. The problem was, I was shy, and feared failing. As I grew older and begin discovering the love of God, and realized that I'm accepted and valued by God, I became bold and began to find peace in knowing that Father God is with me. I believe that God put that desire in me to want to create. It is so important that we do not let anything prevent us from the destiny God planned for us. We have to trust Him and trust His promises and never give up!
Daughter's Story
A Sharpie And A Shirt
I have always loved creating things. I remember drawing on the walls (and having to scrub it off afterwards) and taking toilet paper rolls, paper, scissors and tape to create something. One day I was sitting in my room listening to music on my cd player (that kind of hints at my age), and the Holy Spirit showed me a shirt with the words "wipe out" on it with water droplets splashing off of it. I was like "cool, but I don't have anything to draw on." He showed me a blank white t-shirt I had in my closet, unbeknownst to me, and told me to get the shirt and a sharpie and get to drawing! I immediately went to look for the shirt (which was, of course, exactly where He said it would be), and I began drawing on it. That was the beginning of my t-shirt designing journey.
From that point I began drawing on t-shirts and jeans and I wondered if this was actually something I could do for a living. My first commissioned pair of jeans was from a classmate that wanted to pay me $15 to draw on her jeans. Unfortunately, I was in middle school and I didn't charge her because of the whole 'get the popular people to like you' mentality. To make matters worse she wasn't allowed to wear the jeans because the vice principal deemed them inappropriate, (I should mention that at that time I was experimenting with graffiti art). That discouraged me and for a while I stopped drawing on clothes.
Fast forward 5 or 6 years and by this time I had started college and I didn't know what God wanted me to do with my life, or so I thought. Around this time, my mother and I started talking about starting a t-shirt business. I learned that it had actually been a dream of hers for years and that she prayed to God to send her a business partner. I finally understood why I was told to draw on that shirt and why I could never put my finger on what I was supposed to do with my life.
Then in 2017, after a lot of discussion, my mom and I registered H.S. Designs Global, LLC and began to pray for wisdom, creativity and insight as to what to do. In 2019 we started our Shopify store and have not looked back since. We are walking by faith and believing that the vision the Lord gave my mom will come to pass of a successful business to finance the kingdom of God. I still have that first shirt I drew on, and it is reminder to me that the Holy Spirit can use something as simple as a shirt and a sharpie to birth a dream.
